Christmas Wish
There are Coat Drives, Toys for Tots, School Supply Drives, Stuff the Bus, Salvation Army Bell Ringers, Wichita Childrens Home Drives, Angel Trees, United Way, Food Bank Drives, The Lord’s Diner, to name a few. Over the years, I have participated in them all, enjoying warm fuzzies each time, and wishing I could do more to help on the receiving end of each organization. Listening to the radio stations, hearing people call in to tell stories of their warm fuzzy giving is something I have always enjoyed at this time of giving and receiving… until I turned on the car radio the other day. One of the local radio stations is having a ”Let Us Grant Your (Christmas) Wish” Contest”.
Ok, before I go any further, let me clarify something: I AM in the category of “Giving” and am definitely nowhere close to being a Christmas Grinch. BUT…when it was announced that the lady who won her wish wanted furniture for her son’s FAMILY ROOM, that was a bit much for me. Does this son’s mother realize the number of people in Wichita alone, that are homeless? Definition: having NO home to go to AT ALL, therefore, not only having no home, but, meaning no family room, either. Oh, and no furniture of ANY kind, at all. Give me a break, lady. And, yes, you too, B98 FM.
This is the season known for giving and helping people who NEED the help, not for furnishing a room in the house of someone lucky enough to have a roof over their head, whether owning, renting, having friends or relatives to stay with when in need, or yes, even if there are squatters that are lucky enough to be in out of the weather. Again, shame on you, lady, but a bigger shame on you, B98 FM for that “win” at this time of year when so many are in need.
