Only in America
What a sad and tragic state of affairs when we have to judge a person by their looks. Only in this western culture does it matter how much you weigh, what car you drive, how many miles you run, the best clothes...blah blah blah Wake up and smell the sweat! There are real hard working people out there trying to raise families and make a buck. If everyone closed their eyes and allowed someone to touch them or read them poetry or help, do you think they would know you weighed 300 pounds? Get It? Get over yourself America and go ask your neighbor if they need anything.................... IBF!!!- I've been following the obesity threads and felt compelled to add my own story. I'm not obese. In fact most of my life I have been underweight. I was born very premature with massive facial deformities. By my tenth birthday I had already had 30 surgeries to correct my face, teeth, ears, palate, nose and lips. I was on a liquid diet so much of my life that I never was able to keep much weight on. Children were cruel in grade school, making fun of my face, my speech impediment, and how scrawny I was. They were even more cruel in high school. Many days I fantasized about suicide. By age 20, I had totaled over 45 surgeries in a desperate attempt at normalcy. All I wanted was to fit in and fall in love like my other friends. On a good day, I was a "five". I made up for my looks with a good sense of humor and book smarts. It wasn't until college that I felt like people were actually interested in getting to know me. I met a fabulous nerdy frat boy who, with the aid of beer goggles, spent a good deal of time getting to know me. While it wasn't love at first sight, our friendship became the foundation for a truly wonderful marriage and family. Our children know never to judge a book by its cover. While obesity might not be "pretty", belittling those people only shows how ugly you are on the inside.
- That's bullshit. People are judged by how they look everywhere. You don't think that people in places like Paris or London or Bonn are superficial, as a matter of fact, since America is the obesity capital of the world, it is quite safe to say that only here could you exist. In other countries they are so intolerant of fat people that people feel even more pressure to be thin an keep themselves so because of that pressure, you follow? Just be quiet and be glad we put up with your overweight and add to that overbearing and whiny, ass.
