Why College

Tags: work, education It is getting ridiculous.

I'm tired of coming across great jobs, Reading their description, then getting to the line that says "must have two years college; requires a B.A....". Why is having a college education so great? Why is it prerequisite to getting decent jobs in this economy?! It boils my blood to see career after career elude me on the basis of my HS Diploma only status. There was a time when that was good enough! I was under the impression that high school curriculum was intended to prepare you for life after school, and that college was for more specific fields of study, an add-on to HS. Long gone are the days when you could make a decent living off of the work you did for 12+ years of school- it's been replaced by the need for advanced education. College grad =/= intelligent or competent!!!

I graduated in 2008: there are kids from my graduating class who don't know the difference between their, there, and they're; our and are; affect and effect, etc. They literally ask me what this symbol means- ; ! These are kids who do cocaine and booze it up all semester, then cram for the final and skirt by. There you go- you earned a diploma!!! Really?! While they played grown up, I was out in the real world, getting life experience. I was able to live without drugs and alcohol to keep me awake and engaged. I ACTUALLY earned the things I have now.

Whoever started the trend of "college only" employees has ruled out an entire demographic of people who have all the intelligence you need, minus the waiting for degree and the tens of thousands of dollars of debt. They're also a douchebag. That is all. IBF!
