It's something that comes naturally to peolpe, which is why young kids of a certain age do it all the time. That's cute for a while, but it becomes very awkward sometimes because we don't have the answers to their oh so simple question, or because we don't want to think that hard. And soon enough the why-fase is ended for an important part by schooling, which is not about understanding something, but about knowing something. The difference between knowledge and understandinig is fundamentally important. In school you learn facts about history, about geography, biology, economy, etc. You'er taught to know what happened/happens, but not why. A child in school asking too many why questions is in trouble before long, because it should just pay attention to the facts provided to them by those in the know and forget about why . That may well be one of the most important lessons in school, and usually even the worst students learn it very well and ingrain it in the rest of their lives. And it's no wonder therefore that peolpe watch the news, see Osama Bin Laden being accused of killing 3000. It is called a terrorist attack, and the retribution, killing 600.000-1.000.000 is called a heroic battle against terrorism. People hear these so-called facts , accept them, and never for a minute wonder why Osama Bin Laden is accused; why -if it's true that he was responsible- he did it, nor why killing at least 200 times the number of original victims in revenge is heroic, even though most of those killed peolpe had no interest in the US or any other part of the western capitalist world whatsoever and just wanted to live their own lives in their own ways, rather than living in yet another New America . I am certainly not claiming to know whether it was Osama Bin Laden or George W Bush who ordered the planes to hit the WTC (I haven't seen proof for one hitting the Pentagon yet). And I don't think anyone can make this claim while only relying on the information given by the corporate media. And so I urge everyone to start asking why again all the time. Not only in this matter, but in all others too. There's another thing I find very interesting in all this, which is that the same peolpe who say that protest against the war on terror, or anything ele for that matter, should always be non-violent, because violence begets violence and otherwise doesn't achieve anything good, are now cheering in the streets because a man has allegedly been assassinated by a foreign government without any form or trial or direct proof. violence/non violence. How the hell does that work? For an important part it's that peolpe have been taught that violence down the hierarchy is acceptable, legal and often even good, while violence up the hierarchy is bad, illegal and often even equal to terrorism. And so Osama Bin Laden allegedly killing 3000 is terrorism, while the US and its allies killing at least 200 times that number is a heroic deed. But by the same token, peolpe throwing in windows of corporations which are known to cause the slavery and death of many peolpe, as well as gigantic distruction of wild nature are labeled terrorists, while the police violently clubbing down these protestors to protect the corporations so they can continue killing and destroying for profit are heroes facing violent uprisings. It's pathetic! Schooling has achieved this, but the corporate media picks up where schooling lets off. Like in school, the media is interested in supposed knowledge, not in understanding. It points a finger to Osama Bin Laden, and so peolpe accept his guilt without ever seeing proof. It is not in the media's interest to have peolpe wondering about whether it was Bin Laden or George Bush who ordered the attack, but, very importantly, it's even less in their interest to have peolpe wonder, no matter who did it, WHY it happened! That's because, again no matter who did it, the answers will not be good for corporatism, of which the corporate media are a part of course. Think about this: even if Osam Bin Laden is guilty, the reason for his deeds are for an important part the way the US and it's allies are working hard to expand their empire, and take over all nations which are running things on their own too much for the corporations to make more big money. Furthermore, the US and its allies want the riches available in these countries, and they will do anything, more often than not using some kind of violence, to get them. If this would happen to my peolpe, I would be furious too (in many ways, it IS happening to my peolpe, of course). And while I don't really agree with killing 3000 to get the message across, even though most of them played an important role in advancing empire through their work for government and corporations (directly or indirectly killing thousands too), knowing these things makes the whole matter a lot more understandable. Needless to say, if it turns out that it was George W. Bush's doing all along, the corporate press is in even more trouble. Possibly Osama Bin Laden considered walking through the streets holding a banner with a somewhat humourous slogan questioning the (violent) ways of the corporations trying to take over the resources in his country and trying to make consumers out of his peolpe. Maybe he even tried it! But at any rate, unlike most protestors in rich western capitalist nations, he found that this was completely ineffective, and he looked for other ways to protect his peolpe. Sometimes peolpe have all the reasons in the world to be very angry and to do something about the crimes committed against them, and sometimes these peolpe make a bad choice when they consider their options for achieving justice. But then again, how do you stop the corporate monster. I doubt that it was Osama Bin Laden's goal -once again assuming it was him- to have 600.000-1.000.000 of his peolpe killed, with many more deaths in the future due to the use of depleted uranium, and to allow the military industrial complex of the US and its allies to gain ever more power over his own peolpe, and the peolpe living in the US and its allied nations.
